The Chair

After The Chair was displayed in Amsterdam and Venice, Karlo Štefanek continues the symbolical positioning of his chairs in front of centres of power, transit and institutions – now also in Zagreb. Located between the Central Station and the Art Pavilion in King Tomislav Square, the installation connects the space of movement and culture, and the chair – as a throne-figure – becomes a critical issue. The work questions the role of the chair as support, giving us a chance to reflect on power relations, the hierarchy of transition, rest and control. Without specific instructions, it evokes subjective interpretation and the personal experience of every by-passer.
