Waterfall

Upcycling installation

2024

The Waterfall is an art installation is made of excess aluminium foil, plexiglass and plastic packaging, rerouted from their journey to the landfill into an art studio. The entire gathered material was hand-processed with minimum environmental footprint. The piece addressed the ever more urgent need for designing and implementing solutions to decrease the effect of urban heat islands and make hot summer days more bearable in the cities most hit by climate crisis, feeling the consequences of global warming more and more every year. Waterfall is a result of creative thinking about the reuse of used and disposed objects; through a sustainable artistic process and transformation of waste into a work of art with a purpose, it becomes a good practice example how to minimise waste and give a new life to used objects, as well as stimulates an eco-friendlier art practice. This is an urban intervention that temporarily turns a busy passageway into a repurposed place, which provides citizens a shelter from the heat and creates a new context with a positive effect on the street’s microclimate.
