Welcome to Plastic Culture / Plasticocene is a spatial installation that addresses the omnipresence of plastic in the contemporary environment and everyday life. The starting point of the work is the process of collecting discarded plastic bags and packaging, which the artist transforms into a large tapestry using weaving techniques. A material most commonly perceived as waste becomes the fundamental building element of the work, raising questions about consumption, sustainability, and our relationship with the environment. The tapestry is mounted on a freestanding metal structure and presented in public space as a kind of monument to thematerial that has defined our era. The work points to the geological origins of plastic, produced from oil and natural gas formed from the remains of ancient marine organisms. By combining a traditional weaving technique with plastic, the work transforms the process of recycling into an artistic gesture that encourages reflection on our relationship with the environment, consumption, and material transformation.
